When I discovered that worldwide, 1 million children are currently being stolen and sold by human traffickers, I was shocked.
The why.
Human trafficking is an issue that has only grown worse. Right now there are more slaves than ever before and unfortunately, Leah’s story is just one of many.
On her sixth birthday, in Mississippi, Leah was sold into the human trafficking industry by her own mother. Instead of experiencing the love every child deserves, Leah was forced into a decade of abuse and exploitation. Night after night, men visited her house, and her mother cruelly instruct her to "smile, look pretty, and do whatever he says if you love me."
Leah's escape came at the age of 18, but the trauma persisted, and breaking free from the cycle was a journey that took her until she was 23.
Leah was kept free from her traffickers through a safe place that she was provided; where she could begin the process of healing from the physical and emotional wounds that her traffickers had inflicted on her.

Our relentless mission is to end child trafficking and help you to be the positive force that ushers in a world filled with joy, hope, and love. But every good story needs an enemy, and ours is the darkness of human exploitation.

Beginnings
As a 17-year-old standing at the precipice of adulthood, I felt the pressure to conform and choose a safe, predictable career path. However, the idea of being bound to a desk job for the next fifty years sent chills down my spine.
Deep inside, I knew humans are capable of so much more. This belief grew stronger as I became increasingly aware of the blessings I experience living in Australia.
During this pivotal time, a family conversation about my brother's university project shook me to the core. The topic? Human trafficking—a vile industry that enslaves countless children in forced labour and sexual exploitation. The revelation hit me like a thunderbolt. This was happening a mere plane flight away from my home, if we didn’t rise up against this, we would be complicit in the existence of this life-destroying industry.
A vision brought to life
Fuelled by an unwavering vision, I wasted no time in getting started. As a teenager with little business knowledge or financial resources, I recognised that these were the weapons I would need to begin a movement that would wage war against our enemy.
I immersed myself in every business-related subject available during my final year of school. I took on extra hours at my casual job at a fast-food outlet and later at a local supermarket, as I moulded the idea that would become Joya Jewellery.
Yet, as Joya took shape, doubts gnawed at my resolve. Voices of doubt echoed in my mind, taunting me: "How can a guy start a jewellery brand?" and "The competition is fierce—how can we possibly make a difference?" But I refused to succumb to the enemy within. I realised that the battle against human trafficking demanded every ounce of courage, determination, and audacity I possessed.
