Five Girls holding hands in a field of sun flowers

Leah's Story

On her sixth birthday, in Mississippi, Leah was sold into the sex industry by her mother.

Her mother decided that her daughter was going to make her money through child pornography.

What followed was over a decade of rape and abuse.

Most nights men would come to her house and her mother would often tell her “Smile, look pretty, and do whatever he says if you love me."

Leah escaped when she turned 18 but was not able to completely break the cycle until she was 23.

Leah reached out to Jenny Williamson, the founder of Courage Worldwide a charity committed to caring for the victims of sex trafficking. Jenny was able to keep Leah free from her traffickers by adopting her and giving her a safe place to live.

Human trafficking

Human trafficking is an issue that has only gotten worse. Right now there are more slaves than ever before, and unfortunately, Leah’s story is only one of many.

But we think that now more than ever we have the power to change this. With the introduction of the internet, it is so easy to connect with people who care about children like Leah.

We can now connect with a global movement to rescue these girls and set them free.

This is an issue that we all have a responsibility to help solve.

We want you to be a part of the solution for children like Leah and with our ethical jewellery range making a real difference is easier than ever.

The solution

Our ethically made jewellery is a crucial part to help you make a difference. You see, we donate 20% of the profit from every order to fight human traffickers and rescue girls from abuse.

Now you can be the positive change these girls need through the Australian jewellery you wear.

Every piece of jewellery you wear from Joya represents your decision to not be apathetic but to be a positive force that changes lives.

How can I make the greatest difference?

Recently we introduced our gold and sterling silver signature necklace.

Joya Signature Necklace

How does this piece make more of an impact?

With our new gold and sterling silver signature pieces we employ villagers who are at risk of becoming victims of human traffickers. Employment is a common lie traffickers use to lure their victims into a life of slavery.

Not only do these pieces provide jobs for those who need them most, but 20% of the profit from every order is also donated to rescue girls from human traffickers.

Some of our favourite pieces:

Little Angel Huggies

Huggie earrings are the perfect everyday choice for anyone looking for a relaxed and refined look.
